National Indigenous Basketball Council

Empowering Indigenous Basketball

The 1st National Indigenous Basketball Council was formed by National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Basketball Association in 2006 & held its first meeting at the conference room next to court 4 at the 1st National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Basketball Championships in Sydney at NSW States Sports Centre in Homebush.

Delegates: managers, players, and community leaders from the teams & community came to yarn about how we can make Blackfulla basketball better in our communities & come together as mob.

We discussed issues on health, culture, state & national basketball. After the yarn, we all enjoyed a big feed of KFC, assorted food & drinks.

Fostering Unity and Community Spirit

Over the years, without the support of National Indigenous Basketball Council & volunteers from all over Australia the Annual National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Basketball Championships & all NATSIBA events held in a different state, Region, City allowing every community the chance to help Host the events to bring communities (MOB) together like Sydney (2006), Melbourne (2010), Adelaide (2011), Perth (2007), Darwin (2008), Cairns (2009), Hobart (2012), and Canberra (2013) would not have achieved the outcomes it has in the past & into the future.
